hi there i currently have a 222mm eye to eye 5th element progressive shock and have seen a shock on ebay that is 241mm eye to eye will a 241mm eye to eye shock fit my bike without having to "modify" the frame like so many others have (when i say modify i mean drilling the frame which i refuse to do as it will weaken it at least i think it will anyway not that i'm underestimating the bb7 lol)

bottom line is:

will a 241mm eye to eye shock fit my bb7 (its the 9" travel 2002 frame)

Shotly: no.

BB7 is designed aroung 222x70 mm rear shock and this is absolutely the one to have. Possibly you can take a risk and try 216x63 for slacker, longer geometry and around 8" travel, but generally, using different shock size than stock is very risky in any frame because it dramatically changes geometry and suspension performance. Me thinks: don't try to be smarter than frame designers

eheh well so much for that idea. my 5th takes centuries to rebound to its original position so i need a new shock because all it does is compress and stay compressed until i get off it which sucks. the shock i was looking at was a manitou swinger 3 way (no piggyback) all i want is a simple shock for it the only other spare shock i have is a 200mm fox vanilla R which is alot shorter than my 5th in terms of stroke and eye to eye length.

i guess i should just start saving my pennys and buy a new/secondhand shock
