Hi all,
I have a 2003 BB7 with the floating brake and recently I moved the shock mounting position from "DH" upper mount to the "FR" lower mount. I noticed in the Balfa floating brake manual (that another user posted here in the forum) that they say to only run the floating brake when the shock is in the "DH" upper mounting hole... but they don't say why or if running it in the "FR" position will damage the frame. I like the "FR" lower mounting position better, but I still want to run the floating brake. Anyone know if i'm doing any harm to the bike/frame/brakes if i'm running it like this?

Thanks for an incite/advice

No idea if it could cause any damage, but if I were you, I would try to cycle the suspension in FR position and with floater without rear shock spring to observe the internaction. If you can feel any restriction in the movement, or for example the position of brake caliper against the rotor is changing, or anything else worrying occurs - then running such setup won't be a good idea... But if it works smoothly and everything looks ok, I'd go for some ride tests :)

Thanks Wooyek. When i get a chance i'll take off the spring and cycle the suspension like you said and see if there's any interference. I'll post back up here with my results.

Thanks again!

Try what wooyek said.

floating brake assembly on the bb7 is not around the axle, so its relative position vs shock mount will make a difference in the way is moving as suspension moves. it might get the caliper in contact with the brake metal housing at one point of the travel
