Post subject: 2004 inlcusion of the headtube gusset..

Was there any particular reason they included the additional gusset in the headtube in the 2004 models? I've got an 03 and was just wondering if they had a problem with that area being a weak point in the earlier models.
But these are old, 2000 and 1999 models - I didn't hear about 2003 version cracked near the headtube. Plus, there's hard to find ANY frame that wouldn't crack under someone.
If I were you, I would't worry at all BUT, the 2004 gusset looks way cooler than no gusset in 2003 (maybe it's the reason...)
When Rocky Mountain (ProGroup company) took over Balfa, it was their idea to reinforce the head tube and then machine out the front to shed the weight they had added.

This is fairly accurate. However the parent company of both Balfa and Rocky Mountain is/was Procycle. Procycle is a big canadian based bicycle conglomerate of sorts with many "brands" underneath the parent company.
My bad, I meant to say ProCycle not ProGroup. They are the B&%tards who decided to shut down further production of Balfa because it was competing with Rocky's line of bikes.
