yes this is something i was going to comment on, it only really has an effect when the wheel is locked, while the wheel is still rotating but braking the motion of the swing arm foreward and back is negated by the fact the wheel is still rotating, and add that the grip a tyre can provide is proportional to the load on it, as it hits a bump and is forced upward it increases its grip thus the wheel is rotating and the disc is forced around relative to the caliper, so the "float" required is simply crated by a slight increase in the angular velocity at the disc.

in a word it dosent do much unless you skidding or applying brake force close to skidding, the same could be said for most of the bikes on the market.

now a stiffening feel can be felt simply due to three things, 1 the weight transfer foreward and 2 the slight acceleration and deceleration of the wheel and 3 the squat nature of the bike causing the rear to load the suspension.

For a while a floating brake mount was on the must have list for me, but after riding the bike on some fairly rooted tech stuff, I'm starting to find i like the brake squat, I find it useful in certain situations. I know some MX riders will actually feather their rear brake while on the gas in whoop sections to settle the rear end, so I'm not so sure floating brakes are the end all.

Mtn bikers(no doubt thanks to the internet) seem very prone to gimmicks and hype. Remember the 5th element? spv valving somehow ended up monopolizing the dh shock market......

spv valving somehow gets replaced by shim stacks if you actually want a shock that works nice.

as for the squat the floater wont cure any of this, thats all down to the fact the bike has such a rearward axle path and the rear wheel is slowing down, thus "pulling" the bike backwards, which by nature of it being its only degree of freedom will cause the rear to squat while extending back. i.e. it extends back the only way it can, by pulling the wheel base longer via squat.
im fairly sure the squat was engineered into the bike, hence the change from 7" pivot to just over 9" pivot.
