Hi guys, Im soon to be picking up a balfa bb7 and was wondering if you can put fat 24" tires, maybe 2.8 on the back?

Please do let me know and if you have done it, could you possible put some pictures up?

Btw, how good is the manitou stance, cause my boxxers stanchion coating is coming off, and need new fork... was thinking drop offs

and the balfa im getting is a regular, im bout 5'9-5'10 will it be a good fit?

With 24" doublewides on the back of my BB7's I have used Nokian Gazzalodi 3.0 tires, so yes any 2.8 should be more than roomy. Just make sure that the little black delrin wedge looking thing , which is actually a chain guide is between the upper and lower swingarm bars on the drive side, so the chain doesn't get snagged by the big ole' tire you got ! Here are some of my rides and the Big BB7 shot midway down the page has a surly large marge on the front and a doublewide rear with 3.0 nokians fron and back.

The bike you are getting is a fantastic and very durable bike that will last for years with little trouble. don't use hoses and things will last longer.....you are going to be surprised when you let it rip down the steep and rocky stuff ! I have had and ridden many great rigs, none as enjoyable and stable as the BB7 !

Oh yeah....Maintou.... I would skip it if you could.....check a Marzocchi or an Avalanche out....or an avalanche kit for your boxxer !
You'll be way happier when and if you need parts !

Sweet thanks for the input guys! So i picked up my bb7 an getting some work dobe, needs paint and all taht good stuff. I am talking to a guy getting rid of his super ts 04 should be nice! And sweeet thanks, it woyld ve durib eeekends for trails and the mountajn, so I wad looking for a more freeride friendly build. Love the angle on 24s so will def. Look into it! Thanks!!

Hey guys I was wondering how to make the 5th element shocks more springy?

Ive played around with the rear shocks the whole day, and Im getting back-theritis from leaning over so much....

It seems like whatever I do, I cant get it spring back fast enough. I sit on the bike and it goes down about and inch, but when i get off... it gradually emerges back up. How can I get it to spring back a lot quicker? Im guessing 5th element is strictly dh? I have the shocks mounted on the freeride setup.

Also when I sit on the bike and put weight down, im not sure whats clicking, but I hear clicking noises... is it normal?

Im bout 5'10 165 pounds... I need the spring back so it can support my freeride and comfort setting, the springy feel..... is missing

Please do let me know if you guys have any tips... anything will help!

I would advise either having Avalanche do the avalanche advantage rebuild to that shock or get rid of it if you can. The stable platform valving is total poop IMO. If you can afford to have avalanche put a new shock on it, i would go that route, that shock is so bullet proof and made my BB7 and my 2 step DH feel like they had a foot of travel and never bottomed out even on the most foolish of attempts. Very adjustable and proper valving circuits on these shocks. Avalanchedownhillracing.com , the BB7 shown in the application list is mine, Craig custom designed, fitted and valved it over and over until it was perfect. You will blow up several any other brand shocks before you even see a seal weep from one of these shocks. I will not even buy a bike anymore unless I know I can have one of these fitted to it. As you can see by my PB page....I am not kidding !!

The clicking noise you speak of may be two common things....The spring floating around on the spring collars or the pivot axles of the shock creaking which may sound like a click.....or for that matter, it may even be the main swingarm pivot creaking, which may sound like click. Hope this helps and enjoy that ride it certainly is a sweet one !!
I actually weeped tears the day that I heard Balfa got bought out by PC and I knew they would close them down...and they did..... I was one of the first dealers in the USA for Balfa and I had a lot of interaction with them at nationals and world cups in Bromont, Mt St Anne and Mt Snow. Sorely missed !!

Sweet I got my shocks fixed, I played around with the rear and found only 10lbs of air inside. So I went to get more air in up to 45lbs and its good! The ticking sucks, ill have to look into. When I lift the bike, the noise ive been told was from the play from the beefy screws that connect to the frame. The spacers give it a little play, should be the pivot axel part.

I got this new problem though... The cranks that are on it are Raceface Evolve. I was riding and the right one near the drivetrain was coming loose. So I went back and screwed in the loose 8mm nut, on the inside. The outside 10mm one is fine. (They are both on the right). The problem is once I bike around for awhile, it can get loose, and the cranks move again. Therefore I tighten them a little more, but this time, once I tighten them more, after a while of pedalling, the cranks get jammed.... I dont know whats wrong with them....

Does anyone have any ideas? I am running a chainguide too ...

Thanks, this thing is so beefy I love it! Just need to fix the cranks and get an hayes adaptor and new seal for the Super Ts and off to the trails!
